The Outsider

image

She came in the night
On the breeze
Through the trees

Hair dark as pitch
Only belongings a steed
A dress, a seed

Discord, doubt
Distress in faith
Destruction in her wake

The fallen and lost
Death in disgrace
All behind a haunting face.

Let go (The fear)

image

Breathe
Shaking breaths
On quaking knees
Tearstained cheeks

Shudder
Wracking bones
Hanging on tight
Clenched teeth

Defiance
Fighting hands
Fake it until
You break

Fear
Breaks defenses
Tearing at insides
Give in

Sin
Consuming all
Release your hesitation
Let go

Dark
Surrounds, shrouding
Pleasuring and lapping
Unraveled again

Wake
To empty
Wanting and cold
Fear gone

Alone.

I started this poem and a character popped into my head. Evie from JC Stockli’s The Nothingness showed up behind my eyelids. Lost in addiction and fearing the world, she hides behind the bottle and a haze of smoke, punishing her heart and pining for warmth she can’t allow herself. Enter Lucca, racing her pulse, lighting her skin, and scaring the living shit out of her. But with their destinies so tightly bound, she can’t fight the irresistible pull, even if her life could be endangered.
